Step 1: All canine team applicants must first be a member of a nationally recognized therapy dog organization (see a full list of AKC recognized therapy organizations here) and have completed either Psychological First Aid or Mental Health First Aid Course and Canine Body Language Course (review a list of online courses)
Step 2: If you plan to apply as a canine team, download a copy of our CRC Vet Check and have your veterinarian complete and sign the form attesting to your dog’s health and observed behaviors.
Step 3: Complete the Application. In order to complete the application quickly and easily, we suggest having pictures, scans, or .pdf files of required documents (including the CRC vet check), ready to upload to the application. *If you begin the application and choose to save it, please be sure to click the save button on the bottom of the application page you stop on. *Complete list of items that should be uploaded to the application here
Step 4: After you have submitted your application, you will be redirected to Sterling Volunteers website to complete a background check. If you have already completed a background check through Sterling Volunteers for another organization, you may share that background check with Crisis Response Canines rather than ordering a new background check (directions for sharing Sterling Volunteers background check here).
Once your initial application is reviewed and approved, you will be requested to submit a video evaluation of you and each of your dog(s) completing specific tasks for final approval to become a member. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Langer at blanger@crisiscanines.org.
